Bryn AthynGlencairn Museum houses the collection of the General Church of the New Jerusalem. The galleries reveal the history of religion. Bishop William Henry Benade, the first chancellor of the Academy, focused on the mythology and religious practices of ancient cultures. During travels to Europe and the Middle East in the nineteenth century, Benade and his travelling companion John Pitcairn collected antiquities from Egypt, Syria, Greece, Cyprus and Italy. They shipped these items back to Pennsylvania, where they are curated today in Bryn Athyn. The borough is located to the northeast of Rydal-Meadowbrook.

The New Church bases its doctrine on the Bible as illuminated by the writings of a Swedish theologian and scientist of the eighteen century. Emanuel Swedenborg wrote such books as Principles of Chemistry, The Principia, The Economy of the Animate Kingdom and Arcana Coelestia

The community includes a graceful cathedral and college campus, educating 230 coeducational undergraduates.
