A central attraction of Alverthorpe Park is the scenic lake, which once featured paddle boats for children and families. The high cost for liability insurance precludes the activity now, but the park remains a vital part of the community.

Abington Township's 1962 Annual Report described the park on the day of the dedication: "A magnificent 54-acre area, which has been called one the finest municipal parks in the nation. Former U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower showed delight at facilities of Alverthorpe Park during tour with land donors Mr. & Mrs. Lessing Rosenwald. Abington Township Board of Commissioners President William H. Yost and Leon Clemmer, chairman of the Citizen's Advisory Committee for Alverthorpe Park (left)."
